To feel your authority is more robust, confident and relaxed when working with clients, colleagues and teams
Reflective practice group for professional development facilitated by Belinda Moller
In becoming a reflective citizen, ‘you will have begun the task of re-introducing yourself to yourself. By self-reflection you will have begun the task of developing self-awareness. Being reflective citizens means that we will not only be aware of the rational processes, we shall also begin to understand the irrational, sometimes unconscious, processes that are occurring beneath the surface; processes that have such an important affect on our lives…’ (Lionel Stapley, 2006) .
Reflective practice is a broad philosophy. It promotes the idea that if, first and foremost, we can work through and become aware of our own habitual, defensive patterns of thought and behaviour, we can secure the relationships we value most and become more effective leaders. Reflective practice facilitators have observed that this approach to leadership development, not only benefits the direct recipient but also has a ‘ripple’ effect in the management groups involved.
How does it work?
The members, who have diverse professional experiences, can choose to talk about a work-related event or any relevant situation that will enhance their own capacity for reflective thinking and behaviour. The approach is not based on giving advice; instead the emphasis is on the gradual development of attuned listening, paying attention to feelings and the forming of a deeper trust and confidence at the whole-group level.
This opportunity particularly suits those seeking a supportive structure to pursue career ambitions, manage interpersonal relationships at work, construct a change of career or negotiate a sought after promotion.
The group meets for 90 minutes once a month in Group Analytic Practice in 29 Lower Abbey Street, Dublin 1. The cost is €50 per meeting.
Please let Belinda know if you are interested in joining a monthly reflective practice group in Dublin.
